In
the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of
the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the
prophet, saying, |
| 2.
|
The
LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers. |
| 3.
|
Therefore
say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me,
saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD

Be

Your

| 6.
|
But
my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets,
did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said,
Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our
ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us. |

|
Upon
the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month
Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto
Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, |
| 8.
|
I
saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood
among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were
there red horses, speckled, and white. |
| 9.
|
Then
said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with
me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be. |
| 10.
|
And
the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These
are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the
earth. |
| 11.
|
And
they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle
trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and,
behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest. |
| 12. |
Then
the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long
wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah,
against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten
years? |
| 13. |
And
the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words
and comfortable words. |
| 14. |
So
the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for
Zion with a great jealousy. |
| 15. |
And
I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for
I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. |
| 16. |
Therefore
thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my
house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line
shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. |
| 17. |
Cry
yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity
shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion,
and shall yet choose Jerusalem. |
| 18. |
Then
lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. |
| 19. |
And
I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he
answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel,
and Jerusalem. |
| 20. |
And
the LORD shewed me four carpenters. |
| 21. |
Then
said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the
horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his
head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of
the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah
to scatter it. |

And
you are to say to them, These are the words of the Lord of armies:
Come back to me, says the Lord of armies, and I will come back to
you.
|
| 4.
|
Be
not like your fathers, to whom the voice of the earlier prophets
came, saying, Be turned now from your evil ways and from your evil
doings: but they did not give ear to me or take note, says the Lord.
|
| 5.
|
Your
fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they go on living
for ever?
|
| 6.
|
But
my words and my orders, which I gave to my servants the prophets,
have they not overtaken your fathers? and turning back they said,
As it was the purpose of the Lord of armies to do to us, in reward
for our ways and our doings, so has he done.
|
| 7.
|
On
the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month Shebat, in
the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah,
the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
|
| 8.
|
I
saw in the night a man on a red horse, between the mountains in
the valley, and at his back were horses, red, black, white, and
of mixed colours.
|
| 9.
|
Then
I said, O my lord, what are these? And the angel who was talking
to me said to me, I will make clear to you what they are.
|
| 10.
|
And
the man who was between the mountains, answering me, said, These
are those whom the Lord has sent to go up and down through the earth.
|
| 11.
|
And
the man who was between the mountains, answering, said to the angel
of the Lord, We have gone up and down through the earth, and all
the earth is quiet and at rest.
|
| 12. |
Then
the angel of the Lord, answering, said, O Lord of armies, how long
will it be before you have mercy on Jerusalem and on the towns of
Judah against which your wrath has been burning for seventy years?
|
| 13. |
And
the Lord gave an answer in good and comforting words to the angel
who was talking to me.
|
| 14. |
And
the angel who was talking to me said to me, Let your voice be loud
and say, These are the words of the Lord of armies: I am greatly
moved about the fate of Jerusalem and of Zion.
|
| 15. |
And
I am very angry with the nations who are living untroubled: for
when I was only a little angry, they made the evil worse.
|
| 16. |
So
this is what the Lord has said: I have come back to Jerusalem with
mercies; my house is to be put up in her, says the Lord of armies,
and a line is to be stretched out over Jerusalem.
|
| 17. |
And
again let your voice be loud and say, This is what the Lord of armies
has said: My towns will again be overflowing with good things, and
again the Lord will give comfort to Zion and take Jerusalem for
himself.
|
| 18. |
And
lifting up my eyes I saw four horns.
|
| 19. |
And
I said to the angel who was talking to me, What are these? And he
said to me, These are the horns which have sent Judah, Israel, and
Jerusalem in flight.
|
| 20. |
And
the Lord gave me a vision of four metal-workers.
|
| 21. |
Then
I said, What have these come to do? And he said, These are the horns
which sent Judah in flight, and kept him from lifting up his head:
but these men have come to send fear on them and to put down the
nations who are lifting up their horns against the land of Judah
to send it in flight.

the one who is standing between the myrtles doth answer and say,
'These are they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk up and down
in the land.'
|
| 11.
|
And
they answer the messenger of Jehovah who is standing between the
myrtles, and say, 'We have walked up and down in the land, and lo,
all the land is sitting still, and at rest.'
|
| 12. |
And
the messenger of Jehovah answereth and saith, 'Jehovah of Hosts!
till when dost Thou not pity Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah,
that Thou hast abhorred these seventy years?'
|
| 13. |
And
Jehovah answereth the messenger, who is speaking with me, good words,
comfortable words.
|
| 14. |
And
the messenger who is speaking with me, saith unto me, 'Call, saying:
Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Jerusalem, and
for Zion with great zeal.
|
| 15. |
And
with great wrath I am wroth against the nations who are at
ease, For I was a little wroth, and they assisted -- for evil.
|
| 16. |
Therefore,
thus said Jehovah: I have turned to Jerusalem with mercies, My house
is built in it, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And a line is
stretched over Jerusalem.
|
| 17. |
Again
call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Again do my cities overflow
from good, And Jehovah hath again comforted Zion, And He hath fixed
again on Jerusalem.'
|
| 18. |
And
I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four horns.
|
| 19. |
And
I say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, 'What are
these?` And he saith unto me, 'These are the horns that have
scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.'
|
| 20. |
And
Jehovah doth shew me four artizans.
|
| 21. |
And
I say, 'What are these coming in to do?' And He speaketh,
saying: `These are the horns that have scattered Judah, so
that no one hath lifted up his head, and these come in to trouble
them, to cast down the horns of the nations who are lifting up a
horn against the land of Judah -- to scatter it.'

In
the eighth month, in the second year of king Darius, the word of
the Lord came to Zacharias the son of Barachias, the son of Addo,
the prophet, saying:
|
| 2.
|
The
Lord hath been exceeding angry with your fathers.
|
| 3.
|
And
thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Turn ye to
me, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will turn to you, saith the Lord
of hosts.
|
| 4.
|
Be
not as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried, saying:
Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Turn ye from your evil ways, and from
your wicked thoughts: but they did not give ear, neither did they
hearken to me, saith the Lord.
|
| 5.
|
Your
fathers, where are they? and the prophets, shall they live always?
|
| 6.
|
But
yet my words, and my ordinances, which I gave in charge to my servants
the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers, and they returned,
and said: As the Lord of hosts thought to do to us according to
our ways, and according to our devices, so he hath done to us.

|
In
the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month which is called
Sabath, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came
to Zacharias the son of Barachias, the son of Addo, the prophet,
saying:
|
| 8.
|
I
saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood
among the myrtle trees, that were in the bottom: and behind him
were horses, red, speckled, and white.
|
| 9.
|
And
I said: What are these, my Lord ? and the angel that spoke in me,
said to me: I will shew thee what these are:
|
| 10.
|
And
the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered, and said: These
are they, whom the Lord hath sent to walk through the earth.
|
| 11.
|
And
they answered the angel of the Lord, that stood among the myrtle
trees, and said: We have walked through the earth, and behold all
the earth is inhabited, and is at rest.
|
| 12. |
And
the angel of the Lord answered, and said: O Lord of hosts, how long
wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem, and on the cities of Juda,
with which thou hast been angry? this is now the seventieth year.
|
| 13. |
And
the Lord answered the angel, that spoke in me, good words, comfortable
words.
|
| 14. |
And
the angel that spoke in me, said to me: Cry thou, saying: Thus saith
the Lord of hosts: I am zealous for Jerusalem, and Sion with a great
zeal.
|
| 15. |
And
I am angry with a great anger with the wealthy nations: for I was
angry a little, but they helped forward the evil.
|
| 16. |
Therefore
thus saith the Lord: I will return to Jerusalem in mercies: my house
shall be built in it, saith the Lord of hosts: and the building
line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
|
| 17. |
Cry
yet, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: My cities shall yet flow
with good things: and the Lord will yet comfort Sion, and he will
yet choose Jerusalem.
|
| 18. |
And
I lifted up my eyes, and saw: and behold four horns.
|
| 19. |
And
I said to the angel that spoke to me: What are these? And he said
to me: These are the horns that have scattered Juda, and Israel,
and Jerusalem.
|
| 20. |
And
the Lord shewed me four smiths.
|
| 21. |
And
I said: What come these to do? and he spoke, saying: These are the
horns which have scattered Juda every man apart, and none of them
lifted up his head: and these are come to fray them, to cast down
the horns of the nations, that have lifted up the horn upon the
land of Juda to scatter it.

The
word of Jehovah that came unto Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days
of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the
days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. |
| 2.
|
When
Jehovah spake at the first by Hosea, Jehovah said unto Hosea, Go,
take unto thee a wife of whoredom and children of whoredom; for
the land doth commit great whoredom, departing from Jehovah.
|
| 3.
|
So
he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived,
and bare him a son. |
| 4.
|
And
Jehovah said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while,
and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and
will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. |
| 5.
|
And
it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of
Israel in the valley of Jezreel. |
| 6.
|
And
she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And Jehovah said
unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah; for I will no more have mercy
upon the house of Israel, that I should in any wise pardon them.
|
| 7.
|
But
I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by
Jehovah their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword,
nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen. |
| 8.
|
Now
when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
|
| 9.
|
And
Jehovah said, Call his name Lo-ammi; for ye are not my people,
and I will not be your God. |
| 10.
|
Yet
the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the
sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to
pass that, in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not
my people, it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of
the living God. |
| 11.
|
And
the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered
together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall
go up from the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
