Now
the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, |
| 2.
|
Arise,
go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness
is come up before me. |
| 3.
|
But
Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD,
and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so
he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them
unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. |
| 4.
|
But
the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty
tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. |
| 5.
|
Then
the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and
cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten
it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship;
and he lay, and was fast asleep. |
| 6.
|
So
the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou,
O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think
upon us, that we perish not. |
| 7.
|
And
they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that
we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots,
and the lot fell upon Jonah. |
| 8.
|
Then
said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this
evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou?
what is thy country? and of what people art thou? |
| 9.
|
And
he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God
of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land. |
| 10.
|
Then
were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou
done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the
LORD, because he had told them. |
| 11.
|
Then
said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may
be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. |
| 12. |
And
he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so
shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this
great tempest is upon you. |
| 13. |
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they
could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. |
| 14. |
Wherefore
they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we
beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not
upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased
thee. |
| 15. |
So
they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea
ceased from her raging. |
| 16. |
Then
the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto
the LORD, and made vows. |
| 17. |
Now
the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah
was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

|

And

Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship, and he

|

So
the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, "What do you mean,

so that we won't perish."
|
| 7.
|
They
all said to each other, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know
for whose cause this evil is on us." So they cast lots, and the
lot fell on Jonah.
|
| 8.
|
Then
they asked him, "Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on
us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your
country? Of what people are you?"
|
| 9.
|
He
said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear Yahweh, the God of heaven,

|
| 13. |
Nevertheless
the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could
not, for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.
|
| 14. |
Therefore
they cried to Yahweh, and said, "We beg you, Yahweh, we beg you,
let us not perish for this man's life, and don't lay on us innocent
blood; for you, Yahweh, have done as it pleased you."
|
| 15. |
So
they took up Jonah, and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased

|
| 16. |
Then

|

Nevertheless
the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not:
for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
|
| 14. |
Wherefore
they cried to the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech
thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us
innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
|
| 15. |
So
they took Jonah, and cast him into the sea: and the sea ceased from
her raging.
|
| 16. |
Then
the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice to
the LORD, and made vows.
|
|
| 1.
|
And
the word of the Lord came to Jonah, the son of Amittai, saying,
|
| 2.
|
Up!
go to Nineveh, that great town, and let your voice come to it; for
their evil-doing has come up before me.
|
| 3.
|
And
Jonah got up to go in flight to Tarshish, away from the Lord; and
he went down to Joppa, and saw there a ship going to Tarshish: so
he gave them the price of the journey and went down into it to go
with them to Tarshish, away from the Lord.
|
| 4.
|
And
the Lord sent out a great wind on to the sea and there was a violent
storm in the sea, so that the ship seemed in danger of being broken.
|
| 5.
|
Then
the sailors were full of fear, every man crying to his god; and
the goods in the ship were dropped out into the sea to make the
weight less. But Jonah had gone down into the inmost part of the
ship where he was stretched out in a deep sleep.
|
| 6.
|
And
the ship's captain came to him and said to him, What are you doing
sleeping? Up! say a prayer to your God, if by chance God will give
a thought to us, so that we may not come to destruction.
|
| 7.
|
And
they said to one another, Come, let us put this to the decision
of chance and see on whose account this evil has come on us. So
they did so, and Jonah was seen to be the man.
|
| 8.
|
Then
they said to him, Now make clear to us what is your work, and where
you come from? what is your country, and who are your people?
|
| 9.
|
And
he said to them, I am a Hebrew, a worshipper of the Lord, the God
of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.
|
| 10.
|
And
the men were in great fear, and they said to him, What is this you
have done? For the men had knowledge of his flight from the Lord
because he had not kept it from them.
|
| 11.
|
And
they said to him, What are we to do to you so that the sea may become
calm for us? For the sea was getting rougher and rougher.
|
| 12. |
And
he said to them, Take me up and put me into the sea, and the sea
will become calm for you: for I am certain that because of me this
great storm has come on you.
|
| 13. |
And
the men were working hard to get back to the land, but they were
not able to do so: for the sea got rougher and rougher against them.
|
| 14. |
So,
crying to the Lord, they said, Give ear to our prayer, O Lord, give
ear, and do not let destruction overtake us because of this man's
life; do not put on us the sin of taking life without cause: for
you, O Lord, have done what seemed good to you.
|
| 15. |
So
they took Jonah up and put him into the sea: and the sea was no
longer angry.
|
| 16. |
Then
great was the men's fear of the Lord; and they made an offering
to the Lord and took oaths to him.
|
| 17. |
And
the Lord made ready a great fish to take Jonah into its mouth; and
Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.
|
|
| 1.
|
And
there is a word of Jehovah unto Jonah son of Amittai, saying: |
| 2.
|
'Rise,
go unto Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim against it that their
wickedness hath come up before Me.' |
| 3.
|
And
Jonah riseth to flee to Tarshish from the face of Jehovah, and goeth
down to Joppa, and findeth a ship going to Tarshish,
and he giveth its fare, and goeth down into it, to go with them
to Tarshish from the face of Jehovah. |
| 4.
|
And
Jehovah hath cast a great wind on the sea, and there is a great
tempest in the sea, and the ship hath reckoned to be broken; |
| 5.
|
and
the mariners are afraid, and cry each unto his god, and cast the
goods that are in the ship into the sea, to make it
light of them; and Jonah hath gone down unto the sides of the vessel,
and he lieth down, and is fast asleep. |
| 6.
|
And
the chief of the company draweth near to him, and saith to him,
'What -- to thee, O sleeper? rise, call unto thy God, it may be
God doth bethink himself of us, and we do not perish.' |
| 7.
|
And
they say each unto his neighbour, 'Come, and we cast lots, and we
know on whose account this evil is on us.' And they cast
lots, and the lot falleth on Jonah. |
| 8.
|
And
they say unto him, 'Declare to us, we pray thee, on what account
this evil is on us? what is thine occupation, and
whence comest thou? what is thy country, seeing thou art
not of this people?' |
| 9.
|
And
he saith unto them, 'A Hebrew I am, and Jehovah, God of the
heavens, I am reverencing, who made the sea and the dry land.' |
| 10.
|
And
the men fear a great fear, and say unto him, 'What is this
thou hast done!' for the men have known that from the face of Jehovah
he is fleeing, for he hath told them. |
| 11.
|
And
they say unto him, 'What do we do to thee that the sea may cease
from us, for the sea is more and more tempestuous?' |
| 12. |
And
he saith unto them, 'Lift me up, and cast me into the sea, and the
sea doth cease from you; for I know that on my account this great
tempest is upon you.' |
| 13. |
And
the men row to turn back unto the dry land, and are not able, for
the sea is more and more tempestuous against them. |
| 14. |
And
they cry unto Jehovah, and say, `We pray Thee, O Jehovah, let us
not, we pray Thee, perish for this man's life, and do not lay on
us innocent blood, for Thou, Jehovah, as Thou hast pleased, Thou
hast done.' |
| 15. |
And
they lift up Jonah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceaseth
from its raging; |
| 16. |
and
the men fear Jehovah -- a great fear, and sacrifice a sacrifice
to Jehovah, and vow vows. |
| 17. |
And
Jehovah appointeth a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah is
in the bowels of the fish three days and three nights.
|
|
| 1.
|
Now
the word of the Lord came to Jonas the son of Amathi, saying:
|
| 2.
|
Arise,
and go to Ninive the great city, and preach in it: for the wickedness
thereof is come up before me.
|
| 3.
|
And
Jonas rose up to flee into Tharsis from the face of the Lord, and
he went down to Joppe, and found a ship going to Tharsis: and he
paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them to
Tharsis from the face of the Lord.
|
| 4.
|
But
the Lord sent a great wind into the sea: and a great tempest was
raised in the sea, and the ship was in danger to be broken.
|
| 5.
|
And
the mariners were afraid, and the men cried to their god: and they
cast forth the wares that were in the ship, into the sea, to lighten
it of them: and Jones went down into the inner part of the ship,
and fell into a deep sleep.
|
| 6.
|
And
the shipmaster came to him, and said to him: Why art thou fast asleep?
rise up, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think of us,
that we may not perish.
|
| 7.
|
And
they said every one to his fellow: Come, and let us cast lots, that
we may know why this evil is upon us. And they cast lots, and the
lot fell upon Jonas.
|
| 8.
|
And
they said to him: Tell us for what cause this evil is upon us, what
is thy business? of what country art thou? and whither goest thou?
or of what people art thou?
|
| 9.
|
And
he said to them: I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord the God of heaven,
who made both the sea and the dry land.
|
| 10.
|
And
the men were greatly afraid, and they said to him: Why hast thou
done this? (for the men knew that he fled from the face of the Lord:
because he had told them.)
|
| 11.
|
And
they said to him: What shall we do to thee, that the sea may be
calm to us? for the sea flowed and swelled.
|
| 12. |
And
he said to them: Take me up, and cast me into the sea, and the sea
shall be calm to you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest
is upon you.
|
| 13. |
And
the men rowed hard to return to land, but they were not able: because
the sea tossed and swelled upon them.
|
| 14. |
And
they cried to the Lord, and said: We beseech thee, O Lord, let us
not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood:
for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.
|
| 15. |
And
they took Jonas, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from
raging.
|
| 16. |
And
the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and sacrificed victims to the
Lord, and made vows.

The
word of Jehovah that came unto Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days
of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the
days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. |
| 2.
|
When
Jehovah spake at the first by Hosea, Jehovah said unto Hosea, Go,
take unto thee a wife of whoredom and children of whoredom; for
the land doth commit great whoredom, departing from Jehovah.
|
| 3.
|
So
he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived,
and bare him a son. |
| 4.
|
And
Jehovah said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while,
and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and
will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. |
| 5.
|
And
it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of
Israel in the valley of Jezreel. |
| 6.
|
And
she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And Jehovah said
unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah; for I will no more have mercy
upon the house of Israel, that I should in any wise pardon them.
|
| 7.
|
But
I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by
Jehovah their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword,
nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen. |
| 8.
|
Now
when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
|
| 9.
|
And
Jehovah said, Call his name Lo-ammi; for ye are not my people,
and I will not be your God. |
| 10.
|
Yet
the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the
sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to
pass that, in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not
my people, it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of
the living God. |
| 11.
|
And
the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered
together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall
go up from the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

et
factum est verbum Domini ad Ionam filium Amathi dicens
|
| 2.
|
surge
vade in Nineven civitatem grandem et praedica in ea quia ascendit
malitia eius coram me
|
| 3.

et
surrexit Iona ut fugeret in Tharsis a facie Domini et descendit
Ioppen et invenit navem euntem in Tharsis et dedit naulum eius et
descendit in eam ut iret cum eis in Tharsis a facie Domini
|

Dominus

Ionam

cognoverunt enim viri quod a facie Domini fugeret quia indicaverat

dixerunt ad eum quid faciemus tibi et cessabit mare a nobis quia
mare ibat et intumescebat

scio enim ego quoniam propter me tempestas grandis haec super vos

mare ibat et intumescebat super eos

in anima viri istius et ne des super nos sanguinem innocentem quia
tu Domine sicut voluisti fecisti
|

et
tulerunt Ionam et miserunt in mare et stetit mare a fervore suo
|

et
timuerunt viri timore magno Dominum et immolaverunt hostias Domino
