Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? |

|
Tell
ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children,

| 4.
|
That
which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which
the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the
cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten. |
| 5.
|
Awake,
ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because
of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. |
| 6.
|
For
a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose
teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a

He
hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it

The

| 12. |
The
vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate
tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees
of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the
sons of men. |
| 13. |
Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the
altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God:
for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from
the house of your God. |
| 14. |
Sanctify
ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the
inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and

| 15. |
Alas
for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction
from the Almighty shall it come. |
| 16. |
Is
not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from
the house of our God? |
| 17. |
The
seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate,
the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. |
| 18. |
How
do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because
they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. |
| 19. |
O
LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures
of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the
field. |
| 20. |
The
beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters
are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness. |

Yahweh,
I cry to you, For the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness,
And the flame has burned all the trees of the field.

The
beasts of the field cry also to thee: for the rivers of waters are
dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

The
word of the Lord which came to Joel, the son of Pethuel.
|
| 2.
|
Give
ear to this, you old men, and take note, you people of the land.
Has this ever been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
|
| 3.
|
Give
the story of it to your children, and let them give it to their
children, and their children to another generation.
|
| 4.
|
What
the worm did not make a meal of, has been taken by the locust; and
what the locust did not take, has been food for the plant-worm;
and what the plant-worm did not take, has been food for the field-fly.
|
| 5.
|
Come
out of your sleep, you who are overcome with wine, and give yourselves
to weeping; give cries of sorrow, all you drinkers of wine, because
of the sweet wine; for it has been cut off from your mouths.
|
| 6.
|
For
a nation has come up over my land, strong and without number; his
teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the back teeth of a great
lion.
|
| 7.
|
By
him my vine is made waste and my fig-tree broken: he has taken all
its fruit and sent it down to the earth; its branches are made white.
|
| 8.
|
Make
sounds of grief like a virgin dressed in haircloth for the husband
of her early years.
|
| 9.
|
The
meal offering and the drink offering have been cut off from the
house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord's servants, are sorrowing.
|
| 10.
|
The
fields are wasted, the land has become dry; for the grain is wasted,
the new wine is kept back, the oil is poor.
|
| 11.
|
The
farmers are shamed, the workers in the vine-gardens give cries of
grief, for the wheat and the barley; for the produce of the fields
has come to destruction.
|
| 12. |
The
vine has become dry and the fig-tree is feeble; the pomegranate
and the palm-tree and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the
field, are dry: because joy has gone from the sons of men.
|
| 13. |
Put
haircloth round you and give yourselves to sorrow, you priests;
give cries of grief, you servants of the altar: come in, and, clothed
in haircloth, let the night go past, you servants of my God: for
the meal offering and the drink offering have been kept back from
the house of your God.
|
| 14. |
Let
a time be fixed for going without food, have a holy meeting, let
the old men, even all the people of the land, come together to the
house of the Lord your God, crying out to the Lord.
|
| 15. |
Sorrow
for the day! for the day of the Lord is near, and as destruction
from the Ruler of all it will come.
|
| 16. |
Is
not food cut off before our eyes? joy and delight from the house
of our God?
|
| 17. |
The
grains have become small and dry under the spade; the store-houses
are made waste, the grain-stores are broken down; for the grain
is dry and dead.
|
| 18. |
What
sounds of pain come from the beasts! the herds of cattle are at
a loss because there is no grass for them; even the flocks of sheep
are no longer to be seen.
|
| 19. |
O
Lord, my cry goes up to you: for fire has put an end to the grass-lands
of the waste, and all the trees of the field are burned with its
flame.
|
| 20. |
The
beasts of the field are turning to you with desire: for the water-streams
are dry and fire has put an end to the grass-lands of the waste.
|
|
| 1.
|
A
word of Jehovah that hath been unto Joel, son of Pethuel:
|
| 2.
|
Hear
this, ye aged ones, And give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land,
Hath this been in your days? Or in the days of your fathers?
|
| 3.
|
Concerning
it to your sons talk ye, And your sons to their sons, And their
sons to another generation.
|
| 4.
|
What
is left of the palmer-worm, eaten hath the locust, And what is left
of the locust, Eaten hath the cankerworm, And what is left of the
cankerworm, Eaten hath the caterpillar.
|
| 5.
|
Awake,
ye drunkards, and weep, And howl all drinking wine, because of the
juice, For it hath been cut off from your mouth.
|
| 6.
|
For
a nation hath come up on my land, Strong, and there is no number,
Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it hath the jaw-teeth
of a lioness.
|
| 7.
|
It
hath made my vine become a desolation, And my fig-tree become a
chip, It hath made it thoroughly bare, and hath cast down, Made
white have been its branches.
|
| 8.
|
Wail,
as a virgin girdeth with sackcloth, For the husband of her youth.
|
| 9.
|
Cut
off hath been present and libation from the house of Jehovah, Mourned
have the priests, ministrants of Jehovah.
|
| 10.
|
Spoiled
is the field, mourned hath the ground, For spoiled is the corn,
Dried up hath been new wine, languish doth oil.
|
| 11.
|
Be
ashamed, ye husbandmen, Howl, vine-dressers, for wheat and for barley,
For perished hath the harvest of the field.
|
| 12. |
The
vine hath been dried up, And the fig-tree doth languish, Pomegranate,
also palm, and apple-tree, All trees of the field have withered,
For dried up hath been joy from the sons of men.
|
| 13. |
Gird,
and lament, ye priests, Howl, ye ministrants of the altar, Come
in, lodge in sackcloth, ministrants of my God, For withheld from
the house of your God hath been present and libation.
|
| 14. |
Sanctify
a fast, proclaim a restraint, Gather the elders -- all the inhabitants
of the land, Into the house of Jehovah your God,
|
| 15. |
And
cry unto Jehovah, 'Alas for the day! For near is a day of
Jehovah, And as destruction from the mighty it cometh.
|
| 16. |
Is
not before our eyes food cut off? From the house of our God joy
and rejoicing?
|
| 17. |
Rotted
have scattered things under their clods, Desolated have been storehouses,
Broken down have been granaries, For withered hath the corn.
|
| 18. |
How
have cattle sighed! Perplexed have been droves of oxen, For there
is no pasture for them, Also droves of sheep have been desolated.
|
| 19. |
Unto
Thee, O Jehovah, I do call, For fire hath consumed comely places
of a wilderness, And a flame hath set on fire all trees of the field.
|
| 20. |
Also
the cattle of the field long for Thee, For dried up have been streams
of water, And fire hath consumed comely places of a wilderness!'

ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children,
and their children to another generation.
|
| 4.
|
That
which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that
which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which
the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed.
|
| 5.
|
Awake,
ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight
in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.
|
| 6.
|
For
a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his
teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a
lion's whelp.
|
| 7.
|
He
hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my
fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches
thereof are made white.
|
| 8.
|
Lament
like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
|
| 9.
|
Sacrifice
and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests,
the Lord's ministers, have mourned:
|
| 10.
|
The
country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted,
the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished.
|
| 11.
|
The
husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat,
and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished.
|
| 12. |
The
vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate
tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of
the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children
of men.
|
| 13. |
Gird
yourselves, and lament, O ye priests, howl, ye ministers of the
altars: go in, lie in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: because
sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of your God.
|
| 14. |
Sanctify
ye a fast, call an assembly; gather together the ancients, all the
inhabitants of the land into the house of your God: and cry ye to
the Lord:
|
| 15. |
Ah,
ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and
it shall come like destruction from the mighty.
|
| 16. |
Is
not your food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the
house of our God?
|
| 17. |
The
beasts have rotted in their dung, the barns are destroyed, the storehouses
are broken down: because the corn is confounded.
|
| 18. |
Why
did the beast groan, why did the herds of cattle low? because there
is no pasture for them: yea, and the flocks of sheep are perished.
|
| 19. |
To
thee, 0 Lord, will I cry: because fire hath devoured the beautiful
places of the wilderness, and the flame hath burnt all the trees
of the country.
|
| 20. |
Yea
and the beasts of the field have looked up to thee, as a garden
bed that thirsteth after rain, for the springs of waters are dried
up, and fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness.

|
The
word of Jehovah that came unto Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days
of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the
days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. |
| 2.
|
When
Jehovah spake at the first by Hosea, Jehovah said unto Hosea, Go,
take unto thee a wife of whoredom and children of whoredom; for
the land doth commit great whoredom, departing from Jehovah.
|
| 3.
|
So
he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived,
and bare him a son. |
| 4.
|
And
Jehovah said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while,
and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and
will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. |
| 5.
|
And
it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of
Israel in the valley of Jezreel. |
| 6.
|
And
she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And Jehovah said
unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah; for I will no more have mercy
upon the house of Israel, that I should in any wise pardon them.
|
| 7.
|
But
I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by
Jehovah their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword,
nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen. |
| 8.
|
Now
when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
|
| 9.
|
And
Jehovah said, Call his name Lo-ammi; for ye are not my people,
and I will not be your God. |
| 10.
|
Yet
the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the
sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to
pass that, in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not
my people, it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of
the living God. |
| 11.
|
And
the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered
together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall
go up from the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
