|
In
the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. |
| 2.
|
And
the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of
the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land
of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into
the treasure house of his god. |
| 3.
|
And
the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he
should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's
seed, and of the princes; |
| 4.
|
Children
in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom,
and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as
had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they
might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. |
| 5.
|
And
the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and
of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that
at the end thereof they might stand before the king. |
| 6.
|
Now
among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael,
and Azariah: |
| 7.
|
Unto
whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel
the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael,
of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego. |
| 8.
|
But
Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with
the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank:
therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might
not defile himself. |
| 9.
|
Now
God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince
of the eunuchs. |
| 10.
|
And
the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king,
who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see
your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort?
then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. |
| 11.
|
Then
said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, |
| 12.
|
Prove
thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse
to eat, and water to drink. |
| 13.
|
Then
let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance
of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and
as thou seest, deal with thy servants. |
| 14.
|
So
he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. |
| 15.
|
And
at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter
in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the
king's meat. |
| 16.
|
Thus
Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they
should drink; and gave them pulse. |
| 17.
|
As
for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all
learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions
and dreams. |
| 18.
|
Now
at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them

|
| 4.
|
youths
in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skilful in all wisdom,
and endued with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as
had ability to stand in the king`s palace; and that he should teach
them the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
|
| 5.
|
And
the king appointed for them a daily portion of the king`s dainties,
and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished
three years; that at the end thereof they should stand before the

|
| 11.
|
Then
said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed
over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
|
| 12.
|
Prove
thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse
to eat, and water to drink.
|
| 13.
|
Then
let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance

|
| 14.

So

|

And

And

so should ye endanger my head with the king. |
| 11.

And
God granted Daniel favour and mercy before the prince of the eunuchs.
|

astrologers that were in all his realm.
|
| 21. |
And
Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.
|
|
| 1.
|
In
the third year of the rule of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar,
king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem, shutting it in with his forces.
|
| 2.
|
And
the Lord gave into his hands Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with some
of the vessels of the house of God; and he took them away into the
land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he put the vessels into
the store-house of his god.
|
| 3.
|
And
the king gave orders to Ashpenaz, the captain of his unsexed servants,
to take in some of the children of Israel, certain of the king's
family, and those of high birth;
|
| 4.
|
Young
men who were strong and healthy, good-looking, and trained in all
wisdom, having a good education and much knowledge, and able to
take positions in the king's house; and to have them trained in
the writing and language of the Chaldaeans.
|
| 5.
|
And
a regular amount of food and wine every day from the king's table
was ordered for them by the king; and they were to be cared for
for three years so that at the end of that time they might take
their places before the king.
|
| 6.
|
And
among these there were, of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah.
|
| 7.
|
And
the captain of the unsexed servants gave them names; to Daniel he
gave the name of Belteshazzar, to Hananiah the name of Shadrach,
to Mishael the name of Meshach, and to Azariah the name of Abed-nego.
|
| 8.
|
And
Daniel had come to the decision that he would not make himself unclean
with the king's food or wine; so he made a request to the captain
of the unsexed servants that he might not make himself unclean.
|
| 9.
|
And
God put into the heart of the captain of the unsexed servants kind
feelings and pity for Daniel.
|
| 10.
|
And
the captain of the unsexed servants said to Daniel, I am in fear
of my lord the king, who has given orders about your food and your
drink; what if he sees you looking less happy than the other young
men of your generation? then you would have put my head in danger
from the king.
|
| 11.
|
Then
Daniel said to the keeper in whose care the captain of the unsexed
servants had put Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
|
| 12.
|
Put
your servants to the test for ten days; let them give us grain for
our food and water for our drink.
|
| 13.
|
Then
take a look at our faces and the faces of the young men who have
food from the king's table; and, having seen them, do to your servants
as it seems right to you.
|
| 14.
|
So
he gave ear to them in this thing and put them to the test for ten
days.
|
| 15.
|
And
at the end of ten days their faces seemed fairer and they were fatter
in flesh than all the young men who had their food from the king's
table.
|
| 16.
|
So
the keeper regularly took away their meat and the wine which was
to have been their drink, and gave them grain.
|
| 17.
|
Now
as for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and made them
expert in all book-learning and wisdom: and Daniel was wise in all
visions and dreams.
|
| 18.
|
Now
at the end of the time fixed by the king for them to go in, the
captain of the unsexed servants took them in to Nebuchadnezzar.
|
| 19.
|
And
the king had talk with them; and among them all there was no one
like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; so they were given
places before the king.
|
| 20. |
And
in any business needing wisdom and good sense, about which the king
put questions to them, he saw that they were ten times better than
all the wonder-workers and users of secret arts in all his kingdom.
|
| 21. |
And
Daniel went on till the first year of King Cyrus.
|
|
| 1.
|
In
the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, come hath
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and layeth siege against
it;
|
| 2.
|
and
the Lord giveth into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, and some
of the vessels of the house of God, and he bringeth them in to
the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and the vessels
he hath brought in to the treasure-house of his god.
|
| 3.
|
And
the king saith, to Ashpenaz master of his eunuchs, to bring in out
of the sons of Israel, (even of the royal seed, and of the chiefs,)
|
| 4.
|
lads
in whom there is no blemish, and of good appearance, and skilful
in all wisdom, and possessing knowledge, and teaching thought, and
who have ability to stand in the palace of the king, and to teach
them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.
|
| 5.
|
And
the king doth appoint for them a rate, day by day, of the king`s
portion of food, and of the wine of his drinking, so as to nourish
them three years, that at the end thereof they may stand before
the king.
|
| 6.
|
And
there are among them out of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah,
|
| 7.
|
and
the chief of the eunuchs setteth names on them, and he setteth on
Daniel, Belteshazzar; and on Hananiah, Shadrach; and on Mishael,
Meshach; and on Azariah, Abed-Nego.
|
| 8.
|
And
Daniel purposeth in his heart that he will not pollute himself with
the king`s portion of food, and with the wine of his drinking, and
he seeketh of the chief of the eunuchs that he may not pollute himself.
|
| 9.
|
And
God giveth Daniel for kindness and for mercies before the chief
of the eunuchs;
|
| 10.
|
and
the chief of the eunuchs saith to Daniel, 'I am fearing my lord
the king, who hath appointed your food and your drink, for why doth
he see your faces sadder than those of the lads which are
of your circle? then ye have made my head indebted to the king,'
|
| 11.
|
And
Daniel saith unto the Meltzar, whom the chief of the eunuchs hath
appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
|
| 12.
|
'Try,
I pray thee, thy servants, ten days; and they give to us of the
vegetables, and we eat, and water, and we drink;
|
| 13.
|
and
our appearance is seen before thee, and the appearance of the lads
who are eating the king`s portion of food, and as thou seest --
deal with thy servants.'
|
| 14.
|
And
he hearkeneth to them, to this word, and trieth them ten days:
|
| 15.
|
and
at the end of ten days their appearance hath appeared better and
fatter in flesh then any of the lads who are eating the king`s portion
of food.
|
| 16.
|
And
the Meltzar is taking away their portion of food, and the wine of
their drink, and is giving to them vegetables.
|
| 17.
|
As
to these four lads, God hath given to them knowledge and understanding
in every kind of literature, and wisdom; and Daniel hath
given instruction about every kind of vision and dreams.
|
| 18.
|
And
at the end of the days that the king had said to bring them in,
bring them in doth the chief of the eunuchs before Nebuchadnezzar.
|
| 19.
|
And
the king speaketh with them, and there hath none been found among
them all like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, and they stand
before the king;
|
| 20. |
and
in any matter of wisdom and understanding that the
king hath sought of them, he findeth them ten hands above all the
scribes, the enchanters, who are in all his kingdom.
|
| 21. |
And
Daniel is unto the first year of Cyrus the king.
|
|
| 1.
|
In
the third year of the reign of Joakim king of Juda, Nabuchodonosor
king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and besieged it.
|
| 2.
|
And
the Lord delivered into his hands Joakim the king of Juda, and part
of the vessels of the house of God: and he carried them away into
the land of Sennaar, to the house of his god, and the vessels he
brought into the treasure house of his god.
|
| 3.
|
And
the king spoke to Asphenez the master of the eunuchs, that he should
bring in some of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed
and of the princes,
|
| 4.
|
Children
in whom there was no blemish, well favoured, and skilful in all
wisdom, acute in knowledge, and instructed in science, and such
as might stand in the king's palace, that he might teach them the
learning, and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
|
| 5.
|
And
the king appointed them a daily provision, of his own meat, and
of the wine of which he drank himself, that being nourished three
years, afterwards they might stand before the king.
|
| 6.
|
Now
there were among them of the children of Juda, Daniel, Ananias,
Misael, and Azarias.
|
| 7.
|
And
the master of the eunuchs gave them names: to Daniel, Baltassar:
to Ananias, Sidrach: to Misael, Misach: and to Azarias, Abdenago.
|
| 8.
|
But
Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not be defiled with the
king's table, nor with the wine which he drank: and he requested
the master of the eunuchs that he might not be defiled.
|
| 9.
|
And
God gave to Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the prince of
the eunuchs.
|
| 10.
|
And
the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel: I fear my lord the king,
who hath appointed you meat and drink: who if he should see your
faces leaner than those of the other youths your equals, you shall
endanger my head to the king.
|
| 11.
|
And
Daniel said to Malasar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed
over Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias:
|
| 12.
|
Try,
I beseech thee, thy servants for ten days, and let pulse be given
us to eat, and water to drink:
|
| 13.
|
And
look upon our faces, and the faces of the children that eat of the
king's meat: and as thou shalt see, deal with thy servants.
|
| 14.
|
And
when he had heard these words, he tried them for ten days.
|
| 15.
|
And
after ten days their faces appeared fairer and fatter than all the
children that ate of the king's meat.
|
| 16.
|
So
Malasar took their portions, and the wine that they should drink:
and he gave them pulse.
|
| 17.
|
And
to these children God gave knowledge, and understanding in every
book, and wisdom: but to Daniel the understanding also of all visions
and dreams.
|
| 18.
|
And
when the days were ended, after which the king had ordered they
should be brought in: the prince of the eunuchs brought them in
before Nabuchodonosor.
|
| 19.
|
And
when the king had spoken to them, there were not found among them
all such as Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias: and they stood
in the king's presence.
|
| 20. |
And
in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired
of them, he found them ten times better than all the diviners, and
wise men, that were in all his kingdom.
|
| 21. |
And
Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.
|
|
| 1.
|
The
words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in
Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: |
| 2.
|
To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son
of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. |
| 3.
|
It
came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah,
unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah
king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the
fifth month. |
| 4.
|
Then
the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, |
| 5.
|
Before
I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth
out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet
unto the nations. |
| 6.
|
Then
said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. |
| 7.
|
But
the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go
to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou
shalt speak. |
| 8.
|
Be
not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith
the LORD. |
| 9.
|
Then
the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD
said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. |
| 10.
|
See,
I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms,
to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down,
to build, and to plant. |
| 11.
|
Moreover
the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest
thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. |
| 12.
|
Then
said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my
word to perform it. |
| 13.
|
And
the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What
seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof
is toward the north. |
| 14.
|
Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break
forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. |
| 15.
|
For,
lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith
the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his
throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all
the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah. |
| 16.
|
And
I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness,
who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and
worshipped the works of their own hands. |
| 17.
|
Thou
therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all
that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound
thee before them. |
| 18.
|
For,
behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar,
and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah,
against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against
the people of the land. |
| 19.
|
And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against
thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee. |
